A Well-trained Pet Is a Happy Pet
About Me
A Well-trained Pet Is a Happy Pet

After I adopted my first puppy, I didn't train him very well. I was too afraid of him getting "mad at me" to scold him when he did naughty puppy things, like chewing up my shoes. I thought he would grow out of some of his bad habits, but it didn't seem like he was. I asked another dog owner at the dog park for advice, and he told me that dogs really enjoy being trained, and proper training actually makes them happier. After that conversation, I started taking my dog to a local training center and he seemed to really love being there! He soon stopped his bad habits and even learned fun tricks. I want to share my dog training tips with anyone out there who needs them and help everyone learn that a well-trained pet is a happy pet!

Urban Jogging Essentials: Cracked Pavement, Traffic, And Stray Dogs

Cameron Thompson

Jogging in the city poses its own set of problems for the urban jogger. Unlike when you go jog in a park, or at the gym, you have to deal with a variety of obstacles that you won't find elsewhere. These include cracked pavement, which can trip you up, stray dogs, and dangerous traffic. So, with that said, here are a few things you need to get to make your city jogging excursions more comfortable.

Arm Holster For Your Smartphone

If you run on a treadmill, or a soft track at the park, then you can make due with slipping your phone into your yoga pants, shorts, or just holding it in your hands. That's because you are running on a smooth surface and won't tend to encounter any situations where you might trip and send the phone flying. However, when you're running outside on the pavement, then you can definitely run into cracked sidewalks, potholes, or other scenarios where you might trip. You don't want to hold your phone somewhere on your body where it can fall, so you should get an arm holster that will be securely strapped on and can hold your phone. These will prevent your phone from dropping and breaking.

Non-Noise Canceling Earbuds

You don't want to block out sound while you are running in the city. It's fine to hear nothing but your music when you're running in the safety of a gym, but when you are out on the street you need to hear horns and other traffic sounds. So, when picking out earbuds, steer clear of the ones that advertise that they block out all noise. This is exactly what you don't want. You want to hear your music, but you also want to be able to hear a car blaring its horn so you can avoid getting hit by a car.

Sound Based Dog Repellent

This one is a real problem in certain areas. Not only are there stray dogs, but there are lots of people who don't leash their dogs. So, you might be running by someone and their dog will give chase after you--and you can't rely on your ability to outrun the dog. You need to be prepared for the scenario when an angry dog sees you and gives chase. The old solution, one used by mailmen as well as police and others, was to carry a spray to irritate the dog's eyes. However, that can be a bit dicey to use in public. You don't want to accidentally spray children who are in the area, or other adults. So, what you should look for is a sonic style repellent device. These can safely be used around people because they emit a sound that is not audible to humans, but which is very irritating to dogs. Talk to a business like Sound Defense for more information.
